About the Course
The Theoretical & Observational Fellowship Program (1–3 December 2025), led by Prof. Selahattin Özmen, offers participants an in-depth learning experience focused on rhinoplasty and blepharoplasty. Through live surgical observations, focused lectures, and step-by-step demonstrations, attendees gain refined operative insights and practical knowledge essential for enhancing their surgical technique.

Prof. Dr. Selahattin ÖZMEN, MD, FACS, FEBOPRAS | Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon

I was born in Kızıltepe, Mardin . I completed my primary, secondary, and high school education in Izmir . After graduating from Izmir Atatürk High School, I entered Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine in 1988. In 1994 , I received the Şeref Zileli Successful Student of the Year Award and graduated from medical school third in my class on July 31, 1995 .
I started working as a research assistant at Gazi University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in November 1995, following the Medical Specialization Exam held in September 1995. I completed my specialization training in February 2002 .
With a TÜ BİTAK – NATO B1 Postdoctoral Research Fellowship, I worked as a research fellow at the Plastic Surgery Clinic of The Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Ohio, USA, between 2002 and 2003, focusing on " Allogeneic limb and facial transplants, stem cells, ischemia-reperfusion, and nerve recovery." During the same period, I conducted clinical studies on quantitative somatosensory testing in diabetic patients. I received six international awards for my work between 2002 and 2004.
I won the European Association of Plastic Surgeons (EURAPS) Young Scholarship Award-2003 and worked as a clinical fellow in Craniofacial Surgery at the Sahlgrenska University Plastic Surgery Clinic in Gothenburg , Sweden , for 3 months between October and December 2004.
On December 30, 2004 , I started working as an Assistant Professor at Gazi University , Department of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery.
I received the title of Associate Professor in December 2007 .
In April 2013, I was appointed as a Professor at Gazi University , Department of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery .
I currently serve as a Professor in the Department of Plastic, Reconstructive, and Aesthetic Surgery at the American Hospital in Istanbul and Koç University Faculty of Medicine . I began my duties as the first Department Head at the Plastic, Reconstructive, and Aesthetic Surgery Clinic at Koç University Faculty of Medicine Hospital in 2018 , and my tenure has been extended twice, and I have been in the same position for five years.
I attended the internationally attended " Certified Wound Expert ICW " course held in Hamburg, Germany, between June 18 and July 4, 2007, and completed the wound care course with first place.
I won the first prize in the Basic Science Junior category of the Plastic Surgery Education Foundation (PSEF) in 2006 with my study on Ischemia-Reperfusion titled “ The Impact of Gradual Blood Flow Increase on Ischemia-Reperfusion Injury in the Rat Cremaster Microcirculation Model ”.
In 2007 , I won first place in the Clinical Branch in the Specialist Presentation Competition at the 29th Turkish Congress of Plastic, Reconstructive, and Aesthetic Surgery with my study titled "Upper Lateral Cartilage Fold-in Flap: Combined Spreader and/or Splay Graft Effect Without the Use of Cartilage Grafts." In 2011 , I won first place in the Best of Turkey Specialist Competition organized by the Aesthetic Plastic Surgery Association with my study titled " Cartilage-Sparing Septorhinoplasty." I presented in Milan, Italy, representing Turkey in September 2011. I have received more than 20 awards in total, 8 of which are international.
I resigned from my position as a faculty member at the Department of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery at Gazi University Faculty of Medicine on December 9, 2013. I served as a member of the Faculty Board as the Assistant Professor representative between 2005 and 2007, and also served as an internal audit inspector for the ISO .
I have been serving as the National Instructor of AOCMF (Craniomaxillofacial Surgery) since 2008. In 2011, I was promoted to the International Instructor of AOCMF .
I have been serving on the Editorial Board of the International Journal of Plastic Surgery since 2010 .
I have been serving on the Gazi Medical Journal Editorial Board since 2010 .
I have been serving on the Turkish Medical Sciences Editorial Board since 2012 .
I have been on the Board of Directors of the Aesthetic Plastic Surgery Association since 2011 .
I served as a member of the Board of Directors responsible for scientific affairs at the Turkish Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Association in 2017-2018, and as vice president of the same association in 2019-2020 . I left the Board of Directors after my two-term term expired.
In 2023, I was elected to the Editorial Board of the Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Journal, which is number one in the world .
I was elected President of the Turkish Aesthetic Plastic Surgery Association in 2023, where I served at every level .
In 2023, I was elected as the National Secretary of the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons of Turkey for a four-year term .
I have a good command of English, both verbal and written. I also speak beginner-level German.
I have authored four chapters: “ The Role of Stem Cells in Plastic Surgery, ” “Vascularized Skin/Bone Transplantation Model,” “Bilateral Vascularized Composite Skin/Bone Transplantation Models,” and “Heterotopic Transplantation of Total Face/Scalp Flap” in two books published in the United States: Tissue Surgery (Ed. Maria Z. Siemionow) and Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery: Experimental Models and Research Designs (Ed. Maria Z. Siemionow) . I have also served as a translation editor for the books “ Mastering Rhinoplasty ,” “ Publishing and Presenting Clinical Research, ” and “ Grabb & Smith’s Plastic Surgery (2014) , the cornerstone textbook of plastic surgery .” I am one of the Translation Editors for the forthcoming book Evans Operative Surgery and am the Translation Editor for the latest edition of Grabb & Smith's Plastic Surgery, the flagship textbook of Plastic Surgery.
I have authored chapters in an international book and four national books, and I have also translated 14 chapters from eight international books into Turkish. I have contributed to nearly 50 national and 90 scientific articles, and a total of 274 scientific presentations (190 national and 84 international). My international studies have been cited over 2,250 times, including international books, and I hold an H-factor of 24, making me one of the highest in the plastic surgery field . I have served as a panelist or lecturer at over 150 congresses, symposiums, and meetings. I have also organized over 40 national and 15 international congresses, symposiums, and meetings .
I led the team that performed Turkey's third face transplant (the first female-to-female, bone-based face transplant) on March 18, 2012. I have been a member of the Ministry of Health's Tissue Transplantation Scientific Committee since 2012 .
I am one of the two founding partners of ENSO Aesthetic and Plastic Surgery Clinic-Nişantaşı.
